Do You Need a License to Work As a Phlebotomist?

For those wanting to work as a phlebotomists, the obvious question is what are the main requirements to be able to land a job in venipuncture. Most states nowadays require you to have a phlebotomy license. You obtain this certification license after you have finished and cleared your phlebotomist training program. There are different bodies that offer the practical phlebotomy certification exam and those varies from state to state. It can be daunting at first to find what all the information you need to work as a phlebotomist.

The first place to find out if you need a license in the first place is the state health website. So, if you live in California, you look for the California State Health Board. By the way, in California you are required to get a training and practice exam only with the training programs accreditated by them.

Having a license in phlebotomy is not required by every state, though. In some states you can work if you have proof that you have more than one year experience in drawing blood.
